Bedrich Smetana’s opera,
“The Bartered Bride” tea-set
Porcelain coffee, chocolate, and tea set depicting scenes from the composer Bedrich Smetana’s comic opera "The Bartered Bride." This tea set depicts different parts of the play, some with descriptions, trying to persuade the bride of the opera, Mařenka. The tea set is made of white porcelain with gold outlines and designs like floral motifs.
Bedrich was a Czech composer who created this opera during the years 1863–1866. It made its first appearance on May 30th, 1866, in a two-parter act at the Provisional Theatre in Prague. A story where, despite the combined effort of ambitious parents and a marriage broker, true love prevails. After several revisions, its final version was released in 1870, becoming a worldwide success. Playing in Chicago, London, and even New York. Bedrich's goal was to put Czech opera on the map, and with the success of "The Bartered Bride," he was able to achieve his goal.
