Czech Chapters - American Story

In honor of Czech Heritage Month and to celebrate Czech National Day, we are pleased to welcome back the Apollo Chamber Players for our 9th Annual Czech Heritage Concert. 2025 sees the 120th anniversary of the passing of Antonín Dvořák—a composer whose American String Quartet reflects a deep engagement with America’s ideals of freedom, hope, and belonging. Alongside the luminous works of Bohuslav Martinů, whose vibrant music crossed wars, borders, and cultures, we bring voices rooted in heritage into harmony with the idea of America as a living, evolving project.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Music begins at 7:30 p.m.

MEET THE ARTISTS

APOLLO CHAMBER PLAYERS: Anabel Ramirez Detrick & Matthew J. Detrick, violins, Aria Cheregosha, viola; Matthew Dudzik, cello

Houston-based APOLLO CHAMBER PLAYERS “performs with rhythmic flair and virtuosity” (The Strad) and “recasts music for a diverse and multi-ethnic generation” (Strings Magazine) through globally-inspired programming and multicultural new music commissions. Recipient of Chamber Music America’s prestigious Residency Partnership award, the ensemble has performed for sold-out audiences at Carnegie Hall and The Kennedy Center and is featured frequently on American Public Media’s nationally syndicated program Performance Today.

The Evergreen Quartet is a talented student ensemble from Houston’s Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA). Formed in 2023 during their freshman year, the group features Naoto Osako and Claire Loggenberg, violins, Drayden Johnson, viola, and Rashaud Lawrence, cello. Now juniors, the quartet has developed a mature, cohesive sound and performs a wide range of repertoire—from classical masterpieces to contemporary works—reflecting their shared passion for chamber music and artistic collaboration.
